These are the top 4-5% of the Voting Age Population. Many voters only participate in Presidential elections, staying at home for the midterms. Others only participate in General Elections, but not in Primaries. Many aren't paying attention and miss municipal elections and special elections. But not SUPER VOTERS. They show up no matter how many candidates will be on the ballot because they know that their vote MATTERS and they will not let their voice be unheard. <h2>What makes a life?</h2>Shane and I will celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary in June 2026. He is the Pastor of a church in Montgomery where I have found a second extended family. It's a community that is diverse, which means that Sunday School conversations are lively with disagreement and worship is led by voices of all kinds. I deeply value his privacy, so you won't hear a lot about him on the campaign. Trust me when I tell you he's a cool kid, and I can't wait to see what's ahead for him. I'm deeply passionate about foster care and adoption, and I continue to volunteer as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), serving families involved in the Child Welfare system in the River Region.

<h2>What's next after Louisiana v. Callais?</h2>Last week, the Supreme Court ruled in Louisiana v. Callais that the definition of an illegal racial gerrymander was too broad and they narrowed it to only include instances where the mapmakers were intentionally discriminating on the basis of race. It is no longer enough to demonstrate that a map will effectively hurt black voters. To win, you must demonstrate that the map makers meant to hurt black voters. That distinction is devastating for the Voting Rights Act in general as proving intent is always far more difficult than proving impact.When the ruling was announced, the ALGOP rejoiced in the assumption that they would now be able to draw maps without any regard for the rights of Black voters. As long as they drew the map to ensure total Republican domination, they would be held harmless for the impact on Black voters.Governor Kay Ivey knew that it was not quite so easy. Alabama’s current map was established by Allen v Milligan, a case that found a Section 2 violation of the Voting Rights Act (racial discrimination) but also notably found that the ALGOP had discriminated intentionally. Because of this extra finding, the court’s finding in Louisiana doesn’t invalidate the findings in Allen v Milligan. Governor Ivey knew that the case would not be overturned, so she announced that she would not call for a special legislative session.However, there is another case, AL State Conference of the NAACP vs Allen, that might be overturned in light of the new SCOTUS ruling. That case concerns Alabama Senate Districts 25 &amp; 26. In November 2025, the 11th circuit court placed an injunction on the State of Alabama, requiring it to use the court-ordered map instead of the state’s preferred map for both the 2026 election and the 2030 election. The State of Alabama appealed that decision, but the appeal was stayed pending the Louisiana vs Callais ruling.Although it’s virtually guaranteed that the Supreme Court won’t undo its decision for the Congressional maps and uncertain whether the circuit court will undo its decision for the State Senate maps, the ALGOP was loathe to miss an opportunity to flaunt their desire for total partisan domination. So they talked Governor Ivey into calling a special session. In this special session, they are creating a trigger law, a law that will go into effect only if the court issues the ruling they are hoping for.This special session will NOT involve drawing any new maps. If the court rules that they don’t have to use the court-ordered map, the state will go back to using the map that was used in the 2022 elections.The law they are intending to pass in this special session is a process for holding a second primary. The first primary will be held on May 19, as previously planned. It will be for all the races up for election in November 2026, including Senate District 25 and 26. (Except that I won’t be on the ballot because I don’t have a primary challenger.) The second primary will be held in August. They’ll have to work through all the logistics of how that would happen, including who will be allowed to run for these seats. Although there will be a winner of the District 25 First Primary, that election would have to be re-conducted using the new map for the Second Primary. And it’s possible someone else will choose to run against me in the Second Primary for District 26.Importantly, this second primary will happen only if the court rules that they can use the old 2022 map. There will be one trigger law for the Congressional map and one for the State Senate map. If the courts don’t issue a changed decision, this whole Special Session will result in absolutely nothing.Even if there is a Second Primary, the First primary on May 19th will decide the Democratic nominee for Governor, Lt Governor, Public Service Commission, US Senate, most of the Congressional districts, all the State House seats, and 33 of the 35 State Senate seats.

<h5>Alabama doesn't have to be the poorest state in the nation.</h5>Our people are just as good as the people anywhere else, and we deserve better than what we've been getting. There's no reason Alabamians can't have quality affordable health care, jobs with good wages and benefits, unemployment benefits between jobs, affordable groceries, and affordable child care.Specifically:<ul><li>Raising the minimum wage beyond the federal minimum of $7.25</li><li>Supporting unions as a positive tool for protecting workers</li><li>Removing taxes from groceries</li><li>Incentives for companies to come to the River Region and be good employers to our workers</li><li>Expanding Medicaid and protecting rural healthcare</li><li>Funding SNAP &amp; WIC to support families and children</li><li>Affordable child care</li><li>Requiring a formal rate review of Alabama Power to bring down electric bills</li><li>Banning surveillance pricing on groceries.</li></ul>

There's no reason Alabamians can't have quality affordable health care, jobs with good wages and benefits, unemployment benefits between jobs, affordable groceries, and affordable child care.

<h5>Political elites and Corporate elites, on both sides of the aisle, have controlled Alabama for too long.</h5>They have ignored the will of the people in favor of what makes them money and keeps them in power. We see that in gerrymandering, in tax policy, in the restrictions on local control, and in the inability of citizens to put forward ballot initiatives. If We The People want more power, we have to elect representatives who will fight for us and vote OUT representatives who seek power only for themselves and their wealthy friends.Specifically&nbsp;, I intend to:<ul><li>Propose an amendment to the state constitution to give Alabamians the power to propose changes to the Constitution and vote on those proposals, without the legislature unfairly vetoing ideas.</li><li>Propose an amendment to the state constitution to restore Home Rule to counties and municipalities.</li><li>Pass new tax policy that gives the best rates to working families, not to corporations and the wealthy.</li><li>Strengthen our Ethics laws to hold politicians accountable.</li><li>Strengthen our Open Records Act so that public records are fully and quickly available to the public.</li><li>Firmly oppose any attempt to make the Public Service Commission appointed rather than elected.</li></ul>

Government exists to benefit the people, to establish frameworks by which we can all live as freely as possible.Restrictions on freedoms should be allowed only when deemed necessary for the safety and well-being of the community. Even when only a small minority care about a particular freedom, government should always look to protect liberty. When restrictions are in the best interest of the community - and sometimes they definitely are - let's be creative about how to do those restrictions in the smartest possible way to protect liberties.Specifically, let's look for policies that balance:<ul><li>Tackling our broken prison system &amp; protecting public safety&nbsp;</li><li>Protecting voting rights &amp; ensuring election integrity&nbsp;</li><li>Defending 2nd Amendment rights&nbsp;&amp; preventing gun violence</li><li>Respecting the integrity of the family &amp; protecting children from abuse</li><li>A woman's right to make medical decisions about her body &amp; medical professionals' religious convictions</li><li>The natural beauty of Alabama's water, air, and soil &amp; economic development</li></ul>

Tabitha Isner is running for the Alabama State Senate in District 26. Her opponent is Will Barfoot, who is currently the State Senator in District 25. It is the most competitive State Senate race in Alabama.
